What to prepare before requesting a quotation

Published 09/29/2026

In B2B work the time that disappears is rarely in production — it goes on the questions that go back and forth before a quotation can be issued. Only a handful of details are usually missing. Send those, and most jobs are priced in a single pass.

1. Quantity and how often

One piece and one hundred pieces are engineered differently. Tell us whether this is a one-off or a repeat order, because repeat work justifies investing in a fixture or a program that makes production faster.

2. The date you actually need it

Give a real required date rather than "as soon as possible". If the date is too tight we will say so in the quotation, instead of accepting the job and delivering late.

3. A drawing with real dimensions

A scanned PDF is enough for a rough price, but not for production. A DXF, DWG or STEP file helps far more. Call out tolerances only where they matter — tight tolerances everywhere raise the price for no benefit.

4. Material and surface finish

If you are not sure, describe the operating conditions instead: outdoors, exposed to oil, in contact with food. Our engineers will propose a suitable material.

5. For control work: existing equipment brands

For PLC and HMI work that connects to existing equipment, we need the brand, model and protocol already in use. That decides whether we can connect directly or need a gateway.

6. Who decides

Give us a technical contact and a purchasing contact separately, so technical questions do not have to travel through purchasing every time.

Send all six and most quotations come back without a single follow-up question. If you do not have everything yet, send what you have — our engineers will tell you what is missing by the next working day.
